The default: spend ten minutes rolling 11 six-sided dice to generate your seed phrase; then set a passphrase you can remember.
Creating a wallet = seed words + a passphrase. That is the whole job:
- Generate seed words with dice: no dependence on any wallet’s random number generator, ten minutes of work.
- Set a passphrase: one more lock on top of the seed words.
From years of experimenting with setups, BIP39 seed words + a passphrase is the answer that fits most people today. You don’t need much time or any arcane jargon to build a setup that is simple and, at the same time, no less secure than multisig (yes — no less!).
Building tools and plain-language guides that further lower technical complexity around BIP39 seed words + passphrase is the right way to bring Bitcoin to a wider public.
Why not wallet.dat? Why not a paper wallet? Why not multisig?
