On Passphrases

The prevailing advice online is “6 or more random words” for a passphrase. But this site is written for most ordinary people — and statistically, for the general public, complexity is enemy number one. People easily wreck everything over one extra layer of complexity.

If your seed words were rolled with dice, and you follow the rules for storing and using them safely, then hackers pose no threat to you. A simple password that you won’t forget is the right road for the wider public.

You can even keep the passphrase in a cloud note on your phone. Yes — plenty of guides online insist it must never touch the internet, but consider your own situation and don’t make things unnecessarily complicated. Remember: complexity is enemy number one.
